Prologue
After 3 years almost to the day, we are just about to set off to Madrid and then to St Jean Pied de Port to begin our second camino. This time, we have my brother also joining the group, making the 4 of us. There is some comfort in familiarity so the travelling itinerary has not changed much. We are now split into two groups with my brother and I going from Hong Kong and Gigi and Winnie going from Toronto, meeting up in Madrid. Having been there before certainly cuts down the anxiety level.
Speaking of anxiety, you would think that there is nothing to worry about now that we have done it before. However, I am never comfortable with travelling with time constraint. We have the time constraint because we booked into Refuge Orisson for the end of the first day. Last time, I worried about whether my plan would work or the place is what I envisioned. This time around, although I know that the plan would work, I worry about it being derailed by unforeseen circumstances. The connection from Madrid Airport to the Atocha train station is not generous so any delay in the flight would bring problems. I know I should not worry about that as they say that the camino will provide but I can't help it.
I think we found a better solution for transporting our bags. Last time, we used a lightweight canvas bag (for sleeping bags) to put our backpack through air transport. With no handles, it was awkward to carry and there was no place to securely put on the luggage tag. That to me was a worry. This time, I found a lightweight nylon bag that is a proper bag, inexpensive and can fit the backpack very nicely for transportation. Carrying it in the backpack with us along the way should not be a big deal.
With the change in the membership in the group, I was thinking about changing the title of the blog but that probably will create too much confusion. For those who have been following us across Spain last time, it is easier to follow the same web site.
So there it is, I will try to keep the blog going. I don't usually have much to say to begin with so let us see what I can come up with the second time doing this.
Have a wonderful time Eric and Gigi. Thank you for letting us in to share the adventure with this blog. Jessica
