Day 8 - Los Arcos to Viana

day with miserable weather. Not totally a miserable day. 'A cool morning walk through the country' never sounds too bad. Yes, it was drizzling the whole time but not enough to even put the poncho on. The raincoats did the job. The rain covers on the backpacks did the job. The pants got wet and then dried off several times. We never expected to have sunny days everyday for 3 weeks so we are happy with anything other than outright downpour. Closer to the end of the day, I almost changed my opinion on the day when heavier rain hit with cold blasts of wind whipping around the hillside. But we can handle it.

We noticed that the demographic of the pilgrims may have changed from the years ago. There seems to be a lot more younger pilgrims. I know we are just looking at a slice of time, it is hardly scientific, just an observation. The other observation is that people are getting up earlier. Some people got up at 4 am. Today, there were significant movement at 5 am and by the time I returned from brushing my teeth, the entire floor of the albergue had the lights on. Or is it that people are more easily influenced by others. Again, hardly scientific.

Today was an easy day in terms of distance, also in terms of terrain. While you will never find a totally flat walking day, today is close to that. And as I said before, can go back to enjoy the walk. We arrived before the market was closed and managed to get some fruits before going to the albergue.

After surveying the kitchen facilities, we decided not to fight with the Koreans for the kitchen and ate out. We found this restaurant on the side street. The food is not fantastic but can absolutely fill you up. I supposed that the the idea behind pilgrim's menu. We ordered pulpo (octopus) as appetizer. Quality is no where near those in Galicia. But since we are not going to walk through Galicia, we had to try it, and will probably try again  in Santiago de Compostela.

Tomorrow will be a better day ...
