I have made up my 5 km to complete the Camino for real. Last time, we could not find beds in Pamplona and had to take a taxi to Cizur Menor to get into an albergue. It bugged me that I missed 5 km out of 780 or so km. This time, we actually booked the albergue that we took the taxi from and we did that 5 km this morning. I can now legitimately say that I completed the Camino. No cheating.
Just outside of Cizur Menor, we finally got to walk some flat terrain. I felt that I was actually enjoying the walk without worrying about the technical aspects. For example, it is not just walking when you are going downhill on a stony path. You have to watch where you step. Then I heard footsteps coming fast. This big guy came marching past me. I mean he is close to matching with purposeful strides with poles. Imagine cross-country ski racer. No backpacks. I don't know what to make of it. Then he came marching back towards us. That really ruins it for me. Now I am thinking about this guy and nothing else. And then he is back, forward past us and then back towards us. Maybe he was showing us how it is done.
We had a good breakfast at the albergue close to 7 am. We were warned by the hospitalera that there is a big hill that we might want to ship our bag ahead and may be we should book an albergue in Puente la Reina. We didn't listen. The walk was not bad but it felt like it dragged on. Problem is that we had to walk through several town before reaching Puente la Reina. When walking the Camino, reaching a town signals that you are close. So we were close to being done for one hour and a half hours. That is not fun. Nevertheless, we arrived by 230 pm. As I said before, a reasonable time to get beds.
I suppose this is not a big town so the usual Spanish hours apply for shopping. The supermarket was closed from 2 pm to 5 pm, for siesta maybe. Fortunately for us, shopping at 5 pm is just fine. Grabbed food for dinner and tomorrow's breakfast. We will get lunch somewhere along the way.
