Day 13 - Villafranca Montes de Oca to Atapuerca

Life's little pleasure on the Camino; continuous hot water for shower, available clothesline, clothespin, grocery for cooking, functional kitchen, and most of all, charging station at each bed. Of course, everybody has a phone that needs charging everyday,  and there are cameras, power banks, fitbits, etc. I read once that we should bring a power bar that we can plug multiple things needing Canadian plugs using one European outlet but I have forgotten about it until I saw one yesterday.  For the 4 of us, the bonus is to have a room with 4 beds, bunks or not. That has happened a few times. Oh also, sunrises are back after a few days of drizzly mornings.

Today is a short day. It is about 38 km from Villafranca Montes de Oca to Burgos. Burgos is a must stop but we can't do it all in one day so we have two relatively short days of 18 km and 20 km. We arrived early at the albergue before opening time but the hospitalera was nice enough to let us into the yard, put us in the lineup and we had a picnic lunch there. It is a nice and relaxing day.  The walk was interesting. Ascending right out of the albergue, we then walked a perhaps 10 m wide corridor for a long long way towards San Juan de Ortega. Think transmission line corridor; pretty sure it is wide enough to fit small transmission towers in. Also found some Camino arts there.

Atapuerca is small. It has a store/bar combo, a bar and a nicer restaurant. Scouted the town while waiting and decided to go pilgrim menu tonight.

We were assigned a room with 5 beds and hoped that no one else would share the room. No such luck as the albergue eventually filled up completely. Poor French woman had problem with her arm and feet. Hope she can continue tomorrow.
