Day 4 - Zubiri to Pamplona

El Camino is a reflection of how life should be, how we were taught and how we teach our kids. You share pretty much everything in terms of facilities; the room, bathrooms, showers, laundry line, sometimes kitchen, sometimes dining room and most of all the road or path.  You treat everyone equally and with respect even you don't know them or their languages. People from different countries, cultures and backgrounds can come together and go for the common goal.

The way comes in different sizes and shapes. Some of them are easier and you breeze through them but some are much more difficult and you have to persevere and get it over with. Enjoy the good days and deal with the bad ones. I show most of the different looks and surfaces along the way. And that is just one day.

I found that one of the attractions of the Camino is the simple life. You get up, wash up, pack, walk, eat, walk some more, bathe, eat again and sleep. Repeat the next day.

It just seems like we are more efficient. Breakfast started at 6 am and we are on our way around 645 am. We looked at the time it was only 945 am after doing a healthy chunk of the planned distance of 23 km, including allowance for hilly terrain. We were going to buy lunch at the first stop when it would have been too early to have lunch so we can have it later in the day. We had so much confidence that we decided to shoot for Pamplona before doing lunch. That was not necessarily a wise move because it was past 2 pm when we can think about lunch. Surprisingly, there are grocery/convenience stores open in the afternoon so we had our first cooking night. Definitely more fun and more economical than eating out, even at the price of pilgrim menu.

Lunch at Burger King costed 20€ for two people. Steak dinner and tomorrow's lunch for 4 people also costed 20€.

Along the way, we got news of one of the fellow pilgrims we met going up the Pyrenees had a knee problem and had to bus to Pamplona. You never know what is going to happen. So be nice and enjoy it.

All in a day's walk (in that order)
