Day 32 - Ferreiros to Hospital da Cruz

Day 32 - Ferreiros to Hospital da Cruz

Misty then sunny

We were going to have a short day today but that didn't work out. We were too early and kept going so tomorrow will be a little shorter than planned. We will have to see how it turns out. One of the reasons that we kept going is that it felt such a waste to sit around for an hour and a half and the other is that even there is a kitchen in the albergue, there is no store anywhere near to buy grocery. What are we going to cook?  Without cooking, we will be sitting around all day with nothing to do like two days ago.

We left Ferreiros too early without breakfast That was a mistake. We ended up not having breakfast until 2 hours later in Portomarin. I felt the difference and had no energy the entire day. The last extended part was uphill and was tough at the end of the day. But the albergue isn't going anywhere, as long as we keep walking, we will get there.

The municipal albergues in the province of Galicia are very similar. They are all small houses (former school houses for the ones that were in) that are quite clean with modern facilities. They have a kitchen with a stove but it is hit-and-miss with cooking utensils. The biggest problem is that they are in such small towns there is nowhere you can buy foodstuffs. This one, at least, is close to a restaurant that there is food in the evening.

The municipal albergue that we didn't go to yesterday was hidden and easily missed. It had three pilgrims staying there. Today when we arrived at this one, we were the first ones to arrive and we were hoping for a quiet day. No such luck. By 6 pm, it was a full house. Really shouldn't be surprised as this one is prominently on the main road and is the first one after a long stretch. So even for albergues, the key is 'location, location, location'.
