Day 26 - Foncebadon to Molinaseca
Misty, sunny
We visited La Cruz de Ferro this morning. It was a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting a mountain of rocks formed by people tossing theirs into the pile adding to it. Instead, it looks man-made with large boulders. I suppose it is not practical to have a huge pile of small rocks that people climb up. And the pile would be very big very quickly. Nevertheless, the reality is just too far from the imagination. Along the rest of the way, there are several small scale rock piles that looks very nice indeed.
Today we left Foncebadon after breakfast. Although the albergue was a bit iffy, the breakfast was amazing. It had everything available, fruits, cereals, toasts, coffee and biscuits. We needed that to climb the last bit of the mountain to La Cruz de Ferro and then to the highest point of the entire Camino. Afterward, it was all downhill. Distance was not much but downhill was not so good for the knees. We decided to stop at Molinaseca instead of going another 6 km. We will recover and have a longer day tomorrow, on the flat.
Another tumble today, but it was not one of us. A chatty American woman stopped to adjust her apparel. Then she was obviously going faster trying to catch up with her friends. Not a good idea going down a rocky path. Minor scrapes, she will live to talk some more.
The albergue is good one today. We went downstairs to our room but the window opens to the backyard so it is very nice. Basic kitchen facilities and they offer pilgrim's dinner. We felt that the dinner courses are not very good and decided to venture into town (5 min walk) to have pilgrim's menu at a restaurant. Yes. It is more walking after a day's walk, but it is very relaxed. Our legs and feet are fine and we can handle it.
After scouting it out this afternoon, we went to La Senda Kalapaka for pilgrim's menu. For 9€, we had veal and sea bass, with lamb and chicken being other choices. First course was good too with grilled vegetables, mixed salad and very good soup as choices, among others. Best food on the pilgrim's menu so far. Highly recommended.
