Day 31 - Calvor to Ferreiros

Day 31 - Calvor to Ferreiros

Cloudy with a sprinkle

I usually try to figure out exactly how to get somewhere new before I set off. When I was plotting the Camino route last year, I used street view from Google Maps to figure out where the albergues are. Of course I can only do the ones in the towns and cities that I planned to stay in. As soon as we changed any of the stops, everything is out of the window. Now I am used to it. I don't know how to get there other than to follow the yellow arrows and what it looks like until I get there but that is OK. We have grown an inherent trust in the system that the way markers are sufficient for not only the way but also the albergues, particularly the municipal albergues. It also helps a lot that I have a Google Maps file that shows the entire Camino route that I can check as long as the data coverage is there.

Today is a deliberate short day and an easy walk with just a little bit of hills. We have decided that the municipal albergues are not bad options and as long as we arrive at reasonable hours, we can have our beds. If the town has a store or supermarket and the albergue has cooking facility, that would be perfect. So we have selected the remaining stops based on that.

When we arrived at Ferreiros today, we promptly followed the sign to the albergue, it turned to be the private albergue just ahead of the municipal one. It is more expensive but it has modern facility and we are OK with it. The town doesn't have much and the restaurant and the albergue are run by the same people. No question where we are going to eat tonight.

We are actually finding it not so easy to have shorter days. We are so used to getting up at 530 am or so, setting off at 630 am, walking for 6 or 7 hours to reach our destination of the day. We make up for our slower walking speed by stopping less. We are so used to it now we actually make very few stops. A short distance day would mean we arrive too early and can only hope that the albergue opens early.
