Day 27 - Molinaseca to Cacabelos
Partly cloudy, sunny
I spent some time this morning thinking about how the albergue system is geared to serve the people who want to put in the least amount of effort. At the end, I figured that I do have the resources to ship the bags ahead and I do have a phone so I can book ahead for a bed in the albergue. I chose not to do either out of my own free will. I am sticking with my own idea of the Camino spirit that I will take whatever comes and will deal with it. I have no basis to judge other people's choices. We will do it our way and give it our best to have a bed everyday. And we have done well so far. I did feel sorry for the young couple who we first saw in the dead zone day at Bercianos del Camino. They arrived at our albergue past 4 pm yesterday obviously exhausted, probably from the hard climb to Foncebadon and then the harder downhill to Molinaseca. They obviously need their beds more than those who strolled leisurely to the albergue after 5 pm without their backpack, having booked the beds and having shipped their backpacks in the morning. The young couple ended up spending more money on taxi to the next town.
We are back to road walking today with some natural paths. Road walking is obviously not too interesting but even natural paths are not that interesting anymore. I think we have seen all kinds by now. We do need to grind it out in order to get to the more interesting parts of the Camino.
We arrived fairly early to the albergue. The setup of this one is completely new to us. The rooms are arranged in the perimeter in the courtyard surrounding the church. There are 35 rooms with two persons in each. I am the odd man out and am sharing the room with the crazy (in a good way) Brazilian who we see on and off for about 10 days now. No kitchen, microwave only so we got some supply from the supermarket for supper that does not require cooking.
We had lunch at El Molino in town because of the good lunch portions and the interesting menu. We got our picture taken for their Facebook page. We have not seen it yet but look up El Molino on Facebook, you might find us there.
Bierzo is wine country
What interesting parts of the Camino are coming up? I checked the Facebook page, you are not up there yet. Legs feel better after this second soccer game yesterday, we lost 1-0 but the team played a lot better. Hope to get even better next week
