Day 16 - Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz

Day 16 - Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz

Cloudy

It is true that a picture is worth a thousand words. We have seen many spectacular pictures of scenery. Out in the open here, everywhere you turn, you are surrounded by spectacular scenery. We took a lot of pictures because it looks amazing; however, most pictures do not do the real thing justice. You just cannot capture the three-dimensional feel. Perhaps someday, someone would have a virtual reality showing of the Camino.

We left Hornillos del Camino after breakfast and spent time taking care of our feet. I was naive to say on Day 8 that we don't think about our feet anymore. We actually have to think about our feet a lot since. After medical attention by Dr. Gigi, we are slowly getting back to be able to manage our feet. Hopefully, we think about our feet a lot in the morning and won't have to worry about it while walking.

We decided to stay at the municipal albergue today mainly because it is the furthest in the town. We will try to stretch it and walk 24 km tomorrow and it would shorten the walk ever so slightly tomorrow.

The albergue is actually nice for 5€. It has a small kitchen that has everything available to use (unlike yesterday where the huge kitchen had no cooking utensils or basic material like oil). In addition to the usual stuff, it has a clothes spinner to help dry the clothes. it is greatly appreciated. The hospitalero is very organized. We were given a 'double' (side-by-side) bed because we are 'matrimonial'. He gave all the young guys upper bunks even they arrived earlier. He had food for people when they arrive and went out to get more when it is running out. Here is a guy who likes what he is doing.

We made lunch ourselves after getting supplies from the store. Very nice indeed. Back to pilgrim's menu today for dinner. Seafood paella and prawn first course, beef, fish and chicken second course, tiramisu, cheese cake and frozen cake(?) dessert. Better than expected. Out on the Camino, you never know what you are going to get. It has nothing to do with how big the town is. For us, it is just dumb luck.
