Day 13 - Villambistia to Atapuerca
Sunny
The first few days on the Camino, people would ask where you come from and how far you are going. Lately, we asked, "How are the feet?". My feet are doing fine until yesterday when the top cloth layer of my insole started to loosen with ripples. That forms creases whenever I stepped and my feet didn't like it. It was first the left foot when I promptly stuck a piece of duct tape on and that prevented further damage. I thought my right foot is fine but it was worse after a day's walking and now I have a blister. Duct tape helps but it does not solve the problem. We will have to get supply in Burgos tomorrow to fix it up. Gigi just popped a blister yesterday. Winnie is in the best shape other than the scrapped knee.
Today started with breakfast at the albergue and we got away slightly after 6 am. After the storm yesterday, the temperature plummeted and it was a chilly morning. A fellow pilgrim told us that someone got hailed on during yesterday's storm. Clear sky makes spectacular sunrise. I can never get tired of it. As long as have to get up at 530 am every morning, why not enjoy the sunrise. Temperature today has highs in the teens but is warm in the sun. The warm baselayer works quite well. Walking the Camino is not always scenic, sometimes you walk beside speeding trucks.
We are staying in a small town again that was not in the original plan. You have to deal with it when reality kicks in. It is a small place with 36 beds. The small town does not have a pharmacy but fortunately the store has some basic foot care supplies. That will have to do until we get to Burgos.
Our Irish friend Leo who has blisters all over his feet finally arrived at the albergue we are staying in, 4 hours later. Poor guy.
You would think they would have stocked up on foot care items - seems like a missed opportunity
